Carlos Alberto Brilhante Ustra (Brazilian Portuguese:[ˈkaʁluzawˈbɛʁtubɾiˈʎɐ̃tʃiˈustɾɐ]; 28 July – 15 October ) was a Brazilian army officer, politicianand known and convicted torturer who served as a colonel in the Brazilian Army.
Biography
[edit]Born in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul, Ustra was the head of the DOI-CODI, an investigation division of the Second Army from to He became known by the codename Dr. Tibiriçá. While head of DOI-CODI, 47 people officially died, although further investigation attributed tortures to the division beneath his administration.[1]
In , Ustra became the first military official to be recognized, by a civil court in São Paulo, as a torturer during the dictatorship. He continued to be politically active in military clubs, in defense of the military dictatorship and anticommunist critics.[2]

Carlos Alberto Brilhante Ustra (Santa Maria, 28 de julio de Brasilia, 15 de octubre de ) fue un oficial de ejército brasileño que se desempeñó como coronel en el Ejército Brasileño, y fue exjefe del DOI-CODI del II Ejército (de a ), uno de los órganos actuantes en la represión política durante el periodo de la dictadura militar en Brasil ().[1] También era conocido por el nombre en clave de Dr. Tibiriçá.[2][3]
En , Ustra fue el primer militar condenado por la Justicia Brasileña por la práctica de tortura durante la dictadura.[4] Aunque jubilado, continuó políticamente activo en los clubes militares, en la defensa de la dictadura militar y en las críticas anticomunistas.[5]
