Luis Rafael Sánchez (b. ), Puerto Rican playwright, story writer, essayist, and novelist. Born in Humacao and educated at the University of Puerto Rico (B.A., ), Columbia University (M.A., ), and the Central University of Mexico (Ph.D., ), Sánchez was recognized as a talented young actor and playwright in the late s and early s. He emerged shortly thereafter, the first major voice of a new literary generation, as an equally inventive and critically probing fictional observer of contemporary Puerto Rican life and experience. Dr. Luis Rafael Sánchez, a.k.a. "Wico" Sánchez (November 17, ) is a Puerto Rican essayist, novelist, and short-story author who is widely considered one of the island's most outstanding contemporary playwrights.[1] Possibly his best known play is La Pasión según Antígona Pérez (The Passion according to Antigona Perez), a tragedy based on the life of Olga Viscal Garriga.
