    Hasekura Tsunenagawas a Japanesesamuraiand retainer of Date Masamune, the daimyōof Sendai. In the years 1613 through 1620, Hasekura headed a diplomatic mission to the Vaticanin Rome, traveling through New Spainand visiting various ports-of-call in Europe.
