    Whatsonstage.com is excited to introduce its newest monthly feature, a round-up of reviews of the best recent theatre books, featuring everything from actor memoirs and director handbooks to essays, scripts, stage notes and lots more besides.
    This month we’re featuring two autobiographies: Diana Quick‘s A Tug on the Thread and Antony Sher‘s Beside Myself, reissued for the actor’s 60th birthday; plus, two richly refreshing approaches to Shakespeare: one delving into his psychology, the other unlocking codes in his language (perfect for anyone feeling that the Bard is a bit dated – a sacrilege, I know).

    We’re also reviewing a couple of scripts, including Bovell’s When the Rain Stops Falling, now on at the Almeida, which combines emotionally-wrought family drama with global warming; and reveal playwright David Edgar‘s tips on how you, too, can write that award-winning play.

    As previously reported, the musical's book writer, Chris D'Arienzo, has penned the screenplay for the rulle that will be produced by Rock of Ages huvudgata producers Carl Levin, Matthew Weaver and Scott Prisand, with Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Gibgot. Executive producers are Janet Billig and Hillary Weaver, who are also producers of the Broadway production.

    Authorship has become one of the most heated topics in Elizabethan drama today, inviting readers to take note of recent evidence pointing to collaborators of famous works, previously defined by one author. The contributions of Christopher Marlowe, Thomas Nashe, and Thomas Watson have recently been discussed in articles in The Guardian and The New York Times, illuminating their hands in creating some of the most famous works of their time. Marlowe and others have been credited with contributing to many works previously attributed to Shakespeare including parts of Henry VI.
