EXTENDED THROUGH MAY 10, 2014 . Zimoun combines raw, industrial materials, with mechanical elements to create sonic sculptural works that transform and activate the gallery space. Sound is used as an architectural element that defines space both naturally and mechanically and immerses the spectator in a unique sonic and spatial experience. His work shifts the viewers’ relationship with technology and reminds them of the motors and materials that move everyday life.
Zimoun (born 1977) is a Swiss artist who lives and works in Bern, Switzerland. As self-taught artist, he is most known for his sound sculptures, sound architectures and installation art that combine raw, industrial materials such as cardboard boxes, plastic bags, or old furniture, with mechanical elements such as dc-motors, wires, microphones, speakers and ventilators. Zimoun, born in Switzerland on October 1 1977, autodidact, lives and works in Bern. His work has been exhibited and performed on five continents. It has been recognized with awards from Bundesamt für Kultur/BAK, the Aeschlimann Corti Award, Prix Ars Electronica, and the Kiefer Hablitzel Preis from the Swiss Art Awards.
Using simple and functional components, Zimoun builds architecturally-minded platforms of sound. Exploring mechanical rhythm and flow in prepared systems, his installations incorporate commonplace industrial objects. In an obsessive display of curiously collected material, these works articulate a tension between the orderly patterns of Modernism and the chaotic forces of life. Carrying an emotional depth, the acoustic hum of natural phenomena blends effortlessly with electric reverberation in Zimoun's minimalist constructions.

[edit]Although he was never formally trained in the arts, Zimoun has received numerous prizes for his work and has exhibited internationally.
