Mary Jo Bitner (Plainview)
Mary Jo Bitner, 86 of Plainview, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 11, 2013 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. John Powell officiating. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A family visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, November 10, 2013 at the funeral home. Mrs. Bitner was born to Bedford Kirk and Georgie Smith Kirk on November 13, 1926 in Tipton, OK. She was the youngest of eleven children. She married Forrest Bitner on February 9, 1946 in Vernon, TX. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, and grandma. She loved her family and was a friend to many. She was also a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church for over 50 years. She will be greatly missed by all. She was preceded in death by her husband in March 2005. Carey School's Center for Services Leadership, a globally recognized authority on how to compete strategically through the profitable use of services. She is also a co-founder and served as Co-Chair of the community for Responsible Research in Business and Management.

Mary Jo Bitner (1950) is a well-known professor and active researcher in the field of services and services marketing. In addition to her ground breaking research in the services sector, she has also contributed to the development and realization of the marketing instrument: service marketing mix – 7P’s together with Bernard H. Booms (1981).

Mary Jo Bitner obtained her doctorate (Ph.D.) from the University of Washington.
Her entire academic career is focused on her field of interest: services and services marketing. She is one of the founding faculty members of the Centre for Services & Leadership at the Arizona State University (ASU).
