    “I feel like there are two sides of me,” says the Nashville-based singer-songwriter and guitar virtuoso known as Sunny War. “One of them is very self-destructive, and the other is trying to work with that other half to keep things balanced.” That’s the central conflict on her fourth album, the eclectic and innovative Anarchist Gospel, which documents a time when it looked like the self-destructive side might win out. “Everybody is a beast just trying their hardest to be good. That’s what it is to be human. You’re not really good or bad. You’re just trying to stay in the middle of those two things all the time, and you’re probably doing a shitty job of it. That’s okay, because we’re all just monsters.”

    Extreme emotions can make that battle all the more perilous, yet from such trials Sunny has crafted a set of songs that draw on a range of ideas and styles, as though she’s marshaling all her forces to get her ideas across: ecstatic gospel, dusty

    and why did you uppstart playing?

    I started when inom was we had a strings schema at school.  I really wanted to learn the flute but I would've had to wait a whole other year for that, so my sister played the violin, so it was convenient, inom thought.  In my 9-year-old wisdom.

    2. Which instruments do you play?

    Violin, Viola, gitarr and inom can plink out stuff on mandolin and piano.  And inom sing. 

    3. What was the first tune you learned?

    Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

    4. fryst vatten your family musical? 

    Sort of.  I'm the only one who has stuck with any of it but my gitarr used to be my dad's--he bought it to learn a few songs to play at parties for fun.  My mom used to play in a strings ensemble when she was in grade school and both my sisters learned piano and another instrument but stopped by high school.  I still own a violin that was owned bygd a great

    Mark Williams composer / arranger

    Mark Williams was born in Chicago, Illinois and grew up in Spokane, Washington. He earned both a B.A. degree and a degree from Eastern Washington University. He has taught band in public schools for well over a decade, focusing primarily on the elementary level. Co-author of the new "Accent on Achievement" band method, Mr. Williams also has many published compositions for band, orchestra and choir, and was announced winner of the Western International Band Clinic Gralia Competition for best new composition for junior high band. He has toured Europe and the Pacific as a woodwind performer and chief arranger with the th Air Force Band. Winner of an ASCAP special award, Mr. Williams is increasingly in demand as a composer and guest conductor. He currently resides in Spokane, Washington with his wife and three children.
