Pontificate: July 12, , to Feb. 6, ; b. Lorenzo Corsini, Florence, April 7, His family was influential in Florence for centuries and included in its record the 14th-century bishop of Fiesole, St. andrew corsini.
After studies at the Roman College, Lorenzo proceeded to the University of Pisa to study lag. Upon the death of his father, this eldest son of the family surrendered his rights of inheritance and entered the service of the Church, where his merit was recognized. Corsini became in turn titelbärare bishop of Nicomedia (), nuncio to Vienna (), governor of the castel sant' angelo (), huvudregel deacon of S. Susanna (), and later huvudregel priest of S. Pietro in Vincoli and huvudregel bishop of Frascati. While still a cardinal, Corsini emerged as a patron of art and scholarship. Pope Clement XII (Latin: Clemens XII; Italian: Clemente XII; 7 April 6 February ), born Lorenzo Corsini, was head of the Catholic Church and ruler of the Papal States from 12 July to his death in February
Clement presided over the growth of a surplus in the papal finances. He thus became known for building the new façade of the Basilica of Saint John Lateran, beginning construction of the Trevi Fountain,[2] and the purchase of Cardinal Alessandro Albani's collection of antiquities for the papal gallery.
