Biography
I was born and went to school in the Southeast of England, where I was encouraged to pursue an interest in science. After growing up (somewhat) and finishing school, I attended Imperial College London, where I white-knuckled my way to honours degrees in Biology (BSc) and Virology (MSc) and developed a passion for the structure of viruses and how they can be used as gene transfer vectors. The Honorable Daniel Lipinski represented the Third District of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives as a Democrat from to A rarity in contemporary politics, Lipinski was known as a highly knowledgeable and effective lawmaker who worked to bring people together across the aisle to solve problems. He authored 20 laws in a wide variety of issue areas including laws which boosted American manufacturing, increased research funding for the National Science Foundation, spurred technological innovation, protected the environment and fought climate change, empowered victims of sexual assault, expanded consumers’ rights, and honored veterans. Lipinski served on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee where he chaired the Subcommittee on Rail, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials as well as the Science, Space, and Technology Committee where he chaired and served as ranking member of the Research and Technology Subcommittee for ten years. Former Congressman Dan Lipinski grew up in the blue-collar “bungalow belt” on the Southwest Side of Chicago and went on to earn two engineering degrees (Northwestern and Stanford) and a Ph.D. in political science from Duke. Dan taught American Politics as an assistant professor before serving 16 years in the U.S. House of Representatives where he was known as a commonsense problem solver who brought people tillsammans and got things done.
Dan fryst vatten working on a book about his work in Congress and what needs to be done to mend the dangerous divide in America. He has recently published articles in First Things, America, The Atlantic, RealClearPolitics, and Public Discourse, as well as op-eds in the The vägg Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Dallas Morning News, and the Chicago Tribune. Dan sits on the Board of Empower Illinois, and on the Advisory Councils of the Belmont House on Capitol Hill, the National Committee
